Bed cooling system

A bed cooling system is a mattress pad connected by tubing to a bedside control unit that circulates temperature-controlled water or air through the pad. Unlike sheets, foam, or fabric coatings, it actively regulates temperature rather than just allowing heat to escape, which makes it the most direct tool for setting an exact sleeping temperature.

Most systems let you choose a specific temperature and, on many models, keep circulating throughout the night to hold it steady, instead of offering a one-time cooling effect like gel or phase change materials. Dual-zone versions split the pad in half so each side of the bed can run at a different setting, which is useful for couples with different temperature preferences.

The main things to check before buying are noise level from the pump, how the pad fits with an existing mattress protector, and whether the tubing setup works with your bed frame. A bed cooling system is a bigger investment than sheets or a topper, so it makes the most sense once fabric and airflow changes alone have not solved persistent night sweats or overheating.
