Gel-infused foam

Memory foam with cooling gel beads or swirls mixed in to reduce heat build-up, though the effect is often modest and short-lived.

Gel-infused foam is standard memory foam manufactured with gel beads, swirls, or a gel layer added during production. The idea is that gel conducts heat away from the body faster than foam alone, giving an initially cooler feel when you lie down.

In practice, the cooling effect is mostly about the first few minutes of contact. Once the gel absorbs heat from the body, it can only dissipate that heat as fast as the surrounding foam allows, and dense memory foam still traps warmth over a full night regardless of the gel. This is different from open-cell or airflow-focused foam, which stays cooler by letting air move through the structure instead of relying on gel to draw heat away.

A common mistake is choosing a gel mattress topper expecting all-night coolness comparable to a bed cooling system, then feeling let down after an hour. Gel-infused foam is best understood as a modest improvement over plain memory foam rather than a full solution, and pairing it with breathable sheets and good room airflow gives a more noticeable result.
