Moisture wicking
A fabric's ability to pull sweat away from skin and spread it across the surface so it can evaporate instead of soaking in.
Moisture wicking is a fiber property, not a feeling. It refers to a fabric physically drawing liquid sweat away from the skin and spreading it over a larger surface area, where it can evaporate faster than a small damp patch would on its own.
This matters most for anyone who sweats during the night rather than just running warm. A sheet or pajama fabric that wicks well keeps skin drier even if the room itself is not especially cool, which is why wicking sleepwear and sheets are often recommended for night sweats and menopause-related heat separately from general cooling bedding.
The mistake to avoid is assuming any synthetic performance fabric wicks equally well, or that wicking alone will fix a hot bedroom. Wicking helps with dampness but does little for a warm room with poor airflow. Pairing wicking sheets or sleepwear with good ventilation and a breathable mattress setup gives a more complete result than relying on one fabric claim.
