Hot sleeper
Someone who routinely wakes up feeling overheated or sweaty at night, often needing breathable bedding rather than just a colder room.
A hot sleeper is anyone whose body temperature or bedding traps enough heat overnight to disrupt sleep, whether that shows up as kicking off the covers, waking damp, or tossing to find a cool patch of sheet. It is less a diagnosis than a pattern, and it can affect people who keep a perfectly cool bedroom.
The causes are usually a mix of factors: a naturally higher metabolic rate, hormonal shifts, a mattress or duvet that insulates more than it breathes, or a bedroom that holds humidity. Because heat builds up between the body and whatever is on top of it, the fix is rarely just turning the thermostat down further, since a cold room with heat-trapping bedding still sleeps warm.
The most common mistake is buying one product, like a single cooling pillow, and expecting it to solve the whole problem. Hot sleepers usually see the biggest improvement from changing several layers at once, starting with sheets and sleepwear fabric, then airflow around the bed, and only then looking at a mattress topper or dedicated cooling system.
